How and When to Submit a Partial

Criteria for Submitting a Partial

Submitting partial jobs is only permitted in certain circumstances.  The main reasons are:

  1. End of Scheduled Shift

If it is the end of your scheduled shift and you are not scheduled to work the next hour, you may submit a partial job if you have at least 10% of the audio or fax completed. The only exception to this rule is Group Conversations.  Group conversations may be submitted as a partial at the end of your shift even if 10% hasn't been completed.

It is not required that you submit a partial job just because your shift is over.  You are more than welcome to work past the end of your shift to complete a job.

Job under 3 minutes- Do not submit Partial

Please do not submit jobs under 3 minutes as partial unless you have permission from the Help Desk. Proofreaders will be able to reject these back to typing.

Pilot Jobs, Do not submit Partial

Pilot accounts (new clients) are designated as such in the client's written instructions.  Do not submit pilot account jobs as partial. If you receive a pilot job, and you know that you will not be able to complete it by the end of your shift, you may ask for it to be requeued to typing via a Help Ticket.  Otherwise, you must fully complete these jobs when assigned. This does not apply to GCs.  Additionally, if you receive a particularly long pilot job, you may open a Help Ticket to receive authorization to submit as a partial.

NOTE:  This does not affect the way that typists submit GCs.  If you are not a PR or an authorized GC typist, you will still check the GC box and submit the job as a partial/GC to be typed by someone who is authorized.

  2. Emergency

Occasionally, emergencies arise which may prevent you from completing a job and/or completing your shift.

    Help Ticket

If an emergency arises before the end of your shift and you have completed at least 10% of the audio, you must submit a Help Ticket and wait for permission to submit as a partial.  The Help Desk may ask you to submit a Schedule Change request as well.

If the emergency occurs after the Help Desk is closed, open a Help Ticket to document what happened, and leave a Comment to Proof to explain why you are submitting the partial.

You may NOT submit an emergency partial job and then continue to accept other jobs.  This is considered job dumping and can result in consequences from management.

If you do not meet the criteria above, you may not submit a partial.

If you are not permitted to submit a partial but it is the end of your shift or an emergency arises, you will need to open a Help Ticket to request that your job be requeued.  You will not be paid for any work that has been done so far.

Before Submitting a Partial

  1. Verify that you are permitted to submit a partial per the criteria above.

  2. Make sure the final sentence typed is complete.  Never submit a partial job midsentence.

  3. Always proofread your work.  Double check that you have followed client instructions, used the word list appropriately, and run SpellCheck.

  4. Leave Comments to Proof with all required information.  Include where you stopped in the audio and what audio stream was used, and note any oral spellings or verbal instructions that the next typist will need.  If you were typing a PDF, note the page number where you stopped.
