We do our best to anticipate our workload and schedule typists appropriately to cover it.  However, there are times when we receive a larger amount of work than our scheduled typists can handle.  When this occurs, we send out broadcasts to welcome any available typists to help out.

These broadcasts come to you by email, but they will also appear when you open up TypeEasy and when you log in to your Typist Personal page.  You can even opt to receive them via text, following the instructions at the bottom of this page.

Viewing Broadcasts

When you first log on to TypeEasy, any recent broadcasts will automatically be displayed on your opening screen as follows:

You can also view any recent broadcasts on your Personal page in TypeEasy.  At the bottom of the screen, you'll see this:

This allows you to view the most recent broadcast directly, or to go to a list of all recent broadcasts.

Responding to Broadcasts

If you receive a broadcast and want to work, all you need to do is log in to TypeEasy as usual and set yourself "At Work".  The system will then assign you a job.  You can continue working as long as the system will assign you a job or until you decide to log off.  When you are no longer able to work, you can complete and submit your last job.  You are also allowed to submit as a partial as long as you follow SpeakWrite's guidelines for Partial Jobs.

You are not permitted to submit any job as a partial in order to pick up a better quality or different length job.  It is NOT acceptable to submit partial jobs because you do not want to do them.

Do not answer a broadcast for extra help if you are seriously ill or unable to work to the best of your ability.

Schedule Lockouts

There may be times when we have extra work but are not quite busy enough to send out a broadcast.  When this occurs, we will turn off "schedule lockouts".  When lockouts are off, any typist is able to log in to pick up work, whether they are scheduled or not.

If you haven't received a broadcast but you are intersted in working, always check your Personal page in TypeEasy or at typist.youdictate.com.  When lockouts are off, you will see a message displayed at the top under "Items needing your attention".

Please note, the message above appears on your personal page any time we have schedule lockouts turned off.  In other words, any time we allow all typists to log in whether they are scheduled or not, you will see this message.  It does not always mean we have a ton of work and need a ton of help.  That being said, you should still always feel free to log in and try to pick up some work when you see this message.

Bonus

Occasionally, we may have an excessive amount of work and not enough typists to handle it.  To incentivize typists to log in and help out, we sometimes activate a Bonus rate.  This allows typists who respond to broadcasts to receive a higher rate per word when typing during the Bonus period.  If Bonus is turned on, you will be notified by broadcast.  You will also always be notified when the bonus ends.

As explained in the OLH, Payment Policies, Bonus rates do not apply to group conversation or proofreading jobs, unless the text of the broadcast indicates otherwise.  This is also true for Super Bonus rates.  However, if there is a Mega Bonus being offered, group conversation jobs typed by GC Typists do receive the Mega Bonus rates.

There are a few different levels of Bonus that we utilize, depending on how busy we are and how much help is needed.  The types of bonuses are listed in the table below along with the rate associated with each.

Name of BonusRate per word
Bonus.0055 per word
Super Bonus.006 per word
Mega Bonus.0065 per word

Receiving Broadcasts as Text Messages

You can also have broadcast emails sent to your cell phone!  To set this up, please complete the following steps:

  • Locate your provider from the list below (The most common are listed here.  If yours is not listed, please locate it at: http://emailaddresspro.com/send-email-phone   - or check with your provider.)
  • Send an email to yourself – the name in the To: should be something like this:  xxxxxxxxxx@txt.att.net.
  • Verify that you received the emailed text message on your phone.
  • Once that is verified, open a Help Ticket with the title "Broadcast Text" and request that this email address be added to your account.
  • Please allow up to 24 hours to process this request.  Do not close the ticket until you have been notified that the request has been completed.

Please be aware, you are responsible for any charges incurred on your cell phone plan.

At this time, ALL broadcasts will be received as a text message, including the monthly newsletter, informational broadcasts and updates on tickets.  You should not respond to the text message, as no one will receive your response.

The number of characters and the way that it is displayed in the text message is dependent on your particular device.

Due to the large number of devices and networks, we will not provide technical support to set this up.  Due to network issues, it is possible to not receive messages from time to time.  Please remember to continue to use the other normal methods to check for broadcasts.
