We are excited to announce the release of a brand-new version of TypeEasy. This version is entirely self-contained, meaning you do NOT need to own a copy of Word. It also rectifies some of the clunkier aspects of the old program and more seamlessly integrates with the updated Typist Dashboard.
Because this is a new program, we need your feedback! Use the Feedback link on your Typist Dashboard to share your thoughts with us. If you have suggestions for improvement or encounter technical errors in the program, please let us know.
All feedback is welcome and will be reviewed in consideration for additional updates and improvements. You can also email feedback to Typist.Supervisor@speakwrite.com. For faster assistance with technical issues, open a help ticket.
As updates are released, the Update Notes at the bottom of this page will continue to list new features, changes and bug fixes.

Tutorial of Downloading TypeEasy V2:
Installing TypeEasy.mp4FAQs:
TypeEasy V2 eliminates a lot of the requirements the older version had. It can run on any Windows 10 or newer computer. You will no longer need to maintain Internet Explorer or a copy of Word. Instead, the program will run independently and contain everything you need. You will still be able to use your foot pedal and headphones as usual. (Note: Some foot pedals may no longer be compatible. Check out a full list of compatible foot pedals here.)
Please note, TypeEasy V2 is not compatible with 32-bit computers or operating systems. If you experience problems with opening and running TypeEasy V2, first check to be sure you are using a 64-bit machine.
It’s very similar, but it’s not exactly the same. It looks and functions a lot like what you’re used to, but there are a few minor differences that may take a little getting used to at first. The good news is, this word processor strips out a bunch of unnecessary features, so you won’t have to sift through as many complex settings as in Word. That makes it easier to find everything you need.
A tutorial for using the new word processor can be found here. It goes over some of the common formatting tools you will need, and also points out some of the differences between this program and Microsoft Word.
Theme colors – You can change from the Default color scheme to black or gray. Do this under Preferences.
Zoom level – If you find that the program appears too small or too large for your screen, try adjusting the zoom settings under Preferences.
Absolutely! TypeEasy V2 has a built-in autocorrect feature to allow you to create and edit your own custom autocorrects.
From the Settings tab in TypeEasy V2, select Auto Correct to view and edit your autocorrects.
In the Auto Correct pop up, you can add new autocorrects and delete existing ones. You can also import your existing library of autocorrects from Microsoft Word. For more about that, see the next FAQ.
NOTE: A default list of standard autocorrects for simple typos will also be pre-loaded into the program (though they won’t appear on this list). That means it will still automatically correct basic mistyped words, such as changing “liek” to “like” or “yuo to you”. You do not need to include these types of things in your custom autocorrect list.
More information about autocorrects can be found here on the Word Processor Tutorial page.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to use macros like you do in Word. However, we have added a ton of new features to hopefully help reduce the need for macros.
You do not need to Save your documents in TypeEasy V2. The program will auto-save your document.
Currently, the shortcut ctrl+c works only to copy and paste words within the program. However, in order to copy text to paste outside of the program, you will need to do the following:
Highlight the text.
Right click and select Copy Text.
Then the text can be pasted in your internet browser to search as needed.
We will be frequently updating the program during beta testing as issues are fixed or suggestions are implemented. Whenever a new update is available, you will receive a pop-up upon opening TypeEasy V2. If you click Yes on this pop-up, the download of the new version will begin immediately.
*We do not recommend updating during the middle of a job.*
Updating the program is super simple.
Delete the existing version to avoid confusion. Do not keep two copies of TypeEasy V2 at the same time.
Then follow the same steps you used to install the program originally:
Click Yes on the Update pop-up as seen above. If you accidentally hit No or want to update later, you can also just use the TypeEasy V2 download link (provided by email to beta testers) to download the new version.
After the download completes, locate the file and drag it to your Desktop or wherever you want to store the program.
Double click the file to run the program, and you will see the version number has been updated.
TypeEasy V2 no longer has a Personal tab. Instead, you can link to your Typist Dashboard easily from the Settings tab. Your Dashboard will open in your default internet browser, where you can then log in with your email address and password to access your account.
You CAN access Help Tickets directly from TypeEasy V2 for your convenience while working. Simply visit the Help Tickets tab.
Definitely. These notifications will be very similar to what you’re used to in the previous version of TypeEasy. You can also view help tickets and a list of past broadcasts from your Typist Dashboard.
Yes! There are two ways to adjust how PDFs display next to your document. First, you can drag the bar between the PDF and the document to adjust how much of the screen each takes up. Then, you can zoom in or out on the PDF by right clicking on it and selecting Zoom In or Zoom Out. You can also use Ctrl with the +/- keys to adjust the zoom.
Let us know! We’re counting on feedback from typists to help us perfect the program. With any new software release, we expect to do some tweaking to make sure it meets your needs. Any and all feedback will be reviewed and considered, and updates will be made regularly during the initial launch period.
For specific questions about the new TypeEasy Version 2: email typist.supervisor@speakwrite.com
For technical questions/installation help: See Troubleshooting FAQs below, then open a Help Ticket from your Typist Dashboard for more assistance.
For general feedback/suggestions: use the Feedback link on your Typist Dashboard.
Troubleshooting FAQs:
A variety of issues can occur when the program has been open for too long. If you experience glitches or technical issues, the first step is always to close and restart the program. It’s usually a good idea to restart your computer as well. This should clear up most issues.
If you have trouble with the audio skipping, repeating, etc., make sure you do NOT have the Proof button checked. The Proof button is not meant to be activated while you are typing. Any time you hit “backspace” while the Proof button is checked, it will cause the audio to skip back to that point and then repeat, even if you are still pressing Play on the foot pedal. Try toggling the Proof button off and see if the issue improves. (Even if the Proof button wasn’t activated, but you have used it on a recent job, try toggling it on and back off.)
If any issues persist, try restarting TypeEasy.
Some Unhandled Exception errors can occur without impacting your ability to work. Always try clicking Continue on the error message. If you are able to proceed, you do not need to worry about the error message. You may report it in a help ticket or an email to typist.supervisor@speakwrite.com with the details of when the error occurred so we can look into a possible resolution.
Sometimes these errors occur if you are running an older version of Windows that doesn’t have a required element pre-installed like newer versions have. If you get an Unhandled Exception error when downloading and running TypeEasy V2, and clicking Continue doesn’t allow you to proceed, try downloading and installing the utility below:
NOTE: This is NOT required on most newer versions of Windows. If your system tells you that you already have this utility, this is not the cause of the error you’re experiencing.
Some users have experienced an issue where the audio bar at the top displays an error symbol instead of the actual audio controls. This error may be caused by a specific setting on your computer. Try right-clicking on the TypeEasy V2 file on your Desktop or wherever you have it saved. Then click Properties.
Under the Compatibility tab, be sure to UNCHECK the box that says “Run this program in compatibility mode”.
Then click Apply and OK. Try opening TypeEasy V2 again to see if this resolves the issue.
If this box was already unchecked, open a help ticket for further assistance.
At this time, a list of foot pedals that we know to be compatible with TypeEasy V2 can be found here on the SpeakWrite website.
If you currently use a foot pedal that is not compatible, you may be eligible for a partial reimbursement towards the cost of a new one. Follow the steps for requesting foot pedal reimbursement.
We also have a few non-foot pedal options for controlling the audio in this version.
Hot keys (ctrl + 6 to rewind, ctrl + 7 to pause/play, ctrl + 8 to fast forward).
Try out our new Auto Pause while Typing feature, where the audio will automatically pause when you are typing and automatically resume when you stop typing. This can be turned on from the Settings menu under Preferences.
Due to internet streaming auto-play rules, the software requires you to manually click play on the audio at least once before allowing the foot pedal to control it. Upon loading a new job, click the play button once, and then you will be able to use your foot pedal for the rest of the job.
Track changes is never used in SpeakWrite work, so there isn’t an option for it on the TypeEasy toolbar. However, a certain keyboard command does occasionally turn it on by accident. When this happens, you’ll see a vertical red bar like in the image below. Turn it off by using the shortcut ctrl+shift+E.
Note: If the red bar remains after using that shortcut, you may need to “accept” the previous changes before it’ll go away. Click the red bar to show the changes highlighted in the document. Right click on them to select Accept Change. Once you’ve accepted all changes, the red bar should go away and should not continue to appear. If it does, be sure to hit ctrl+shift+E again before typing any more.
If you see a dotted line appearing under your text, you may have accidentally turned on Hidden Text. This feature should never be used in SpeakWrite work for two reasons – 1) it doesn’t show up when Show/Hide is off or when the client tries to print the job, and 2) you won’t be paid for it because it isn’t counted in the word count of the job.
In your document, Hidden Text looks like this:
To turn this off, highlight the hidden text (anything underlined with the dotted line) and use the key combination ctrl+shift+H.
Sometimes, the built in autocorrects may conflict with something you want to type. For instance, sometimes words are auto-capitalized when you do not wish them to be. Simply use ctrl+Z to undo the autocorrect and return it to what you originally typed.
Depending on your screen size/resolution settings, the entire view of TypeEasy V2 may not be able to display all at once. If you do not see an audio bar/controls at the top of the screen, look for a scroll bar on the far right and scroll up. This should allow you to see the top of the screen with the audio bar/audio controls. If this doesn’t work, please open a help ticket.
We are looking into an issue that causes a widening blank gap between a PDF and the document (and sometimes, the PR Rating Sheet and the document).
In the meantime, closing TypeEasy and restarting will usually resolve this issue.
If you have third-party antivirus software (McAfee, Norton, etc.), it may be interfering with TypeEasy V2’s ability to display properly. Try disabling and/or uninstalling your antivirus software to see if the issue is resolved. If so, you may want to stick with Windows Defender (the pre-loaded antivirus protection software that comes standard on Windows machines) rather than using the third-party antivirus.
