Your Schedule Commitment
SpeakWrite scheduling policies can be summed up simply: always work when you say you will work, and let us know in advance if you cannot.
When you schedule work as a typist, you commit that you will:
Sign in at the beginning of the hour or shift.scheduled hour. (Be sure to set your time zone under Preferences to make sure you show up at the right time.)
Stay signed in to TypeEasy with your status set to At Work and be at your computer ready to accept any jobs assigned to you for your entire scheduled shift.Use the TypeEasy time clock to match your shifts to official company time.
Absenteeism and Tardiness
If you sign up for a shift, you must show up to work it unless you submit a Schedule Change ticket (see /wiki/spaces/NOH/pages/849809060Help Tickets).
Failure to do so constitutes absenteeism and will result in the following:
- 1st Instance – warning
- 2nd Instance – warning and removal of shifts for the week
- 3rd Instance – warning and all scheduled shifts removed
- 4th Instance – all shifts removed and dropped to lowest scheduling priority
- 5th Instance – 1-month suspension
- 6th Instance – termination of contract
Schedule Changes
To ensure that we have adequate shift coverage at all times, you are allowed up to 15 schedule change tickets in a calendar month.
Schedule change tickets in excess of 15 will not be approved and may result in an attendance warning.
Any shifts that are not worked will be subject to our standard Absenteeism and Tardiness policy.
All schedule changes must be completed by following the Requesting Schedule Changes procedures on the Scheduling page.

Hoarding shifts and using schedule changes to drop them at the last minute will not be tolerated. Each typist is limited to 15 schedule changes per month. The total number of shifts dropped will also be monitored, as excessive numbers of dropped shifts could result in an attendance warning. |
Breaks
During any scheduled shift, you may take a 5-minute break for each hour worked between jobs only.
If you are working for several consecutive hours, you can accumulate your break time, to a maximum of 15 minutes. Breaks are entirely optional.
Do not take a break in the middle of a job. Additionally, you may not submit a job as a partial in order to go on a break.
When you wish to take a break, set your Working Statusto On Break for the duration of your break.
When your break is over, click At Work to receive a new job.

---|
Keep in mind, habitual tardiness may result in the same consequences as missing a shift. All instances occur over a rolling 6-month period. |

Ending Your Shift
When you are finished working, please submit your final job (either as complete or partial) and then click the Not At Work button and log out of TypeEasy completely (X out at the top of the TypeEasy screen). Our system will continue to communicate with TypeEasy until you completely close the program and will log this time as BREAK minutes. If you fail to log out of TypeEasy and BREAK minutes are noted in excess of 1500, your account will be disabled until you contact Contractor.Support@speakwrite.com.
Any breach in confidentiality that occurs due to not properly closing TypeEasy at the end of a shift can result in further management intervention.
Warning |
---|
If you accidentally click the At Work button at the end of a shift, but are not able to work on a job that is assigned, you must submit a Help Ticket to re-queue the job. Do not just log out and ignore the job that has been assigned to you. |
Monthly Minimum Hours
You must schedule and work at least 15 hours per month in order to remain a SpeakWrite Independent Contractor. Our policy is necessary to ensure that all contractors are working with the system frequently enough to maintain high-quality, prompt work.
Your contract will may be deactivated if you work less than 15 scheduled hours for 2 consecutive months. If you have been deactivated due to not meeting the required minimum hours, you may request to be reactivated by emailing contractor.support@speakwrite.com.
If you have been inactive longer than 6 months, you may be required to repeat the training/testing process. You will only be allowed to be reactivated one time.
All reactivations are based on our hiring needs at the time of the request and require management approval.
Warning |
---|
Account reactivation may not be available to any contractor who has been terminated for failure to follow policies or has received unacceptable evaluations or client comments. |
