We are excited to announce the release of a brand-new version of TypeEasy. This version is entirely self-contained, meaning you do NOT need to own a copy of Word. It also rectifies some of the clunkier aspects of the old program and more seamlessly integrates with the updated Typist Dashboard.
We are thrilled to be able to share this version of the program with our typists. In the coming weeks, all typists will need to start transitioning to the new platform. The current version of TypeEasy will continue to work for awhile as we transition, and for the time being, you are allowed to switch back and forth if needed (as long as you are not in the middle of a job). Eventually, the older version will be decommissioned.

TypeEasy V2 eliminates a lot of the requirements the older version had. It can run on any Windows 7 10 or newer computer. You will no longer need to maintain Internet Explorer or a copy of Word. Instead, the program will run independently and contain everything you need. You will still be able to use your foot pedal and headphones as usual. (Note: Some foot pedals may no longer be compatible. Check out a full list of compatible foot pedals here.) Please note, TypeEasy V2 is not compatible with 32-bit computers or operating systems. If you experience problems with opening and running TypeEasy V2, first check to be sure you are using a 64-bit machine. |

Some Unhandled Exception errors can occur without impacting your ability to work. Always try clicking Continue on the error message. If you are able to proceed, you do not need to worry about the error message. You may report it in a help ticket or an email to typist.supervisor@speakwrite.com with the details of when the error occurred so we can look into a possible resolution. |

Sometimes these errors occur if you are running an older version of Windows that doesn’t have a required element pre-installed like newer versions have. If you get an Unhandled Exception error when downloading and running TypeEasy V2, and clicking Continue doesn’t allow you to proceed, try downloading and installing the utility below: NOTE: This is NOT required on most newer versions of Windows. If your system tells you that you already have this utility, this is not the cause of the error you’re experiencing. |

Some users have experienced an issue where the audio bar at the top displays an error symbol instead of the actual audio controls. This error may be caused by a specific setting on your computer. Try right-clicking on the TypeEasy V2 file on your Desktop or wherever you have it saved. Then click Properties. Under the Compatibility tab, be sure to UNCHECK the box that says “Run this program in compatibility mode”. Then click Apply and OK. Try opening TypeEasy V2 again to see if this resolves the issue. If this box was already unchecked, open a help ticket for further assistance. |

At this time, a list of foot pedals that we know to be compatible with TypeEasy V2 can be found here on the SpeakWrite website. If you currently use a foot pedal that is not compatible, you may be eligible for a partial reimbursement towards the cost of a new one. Follow the steps for requesting foot pedal reimbursement. We also have a few non-foot pedal options for controlling the audio in this version.

Due to internet streaming auto-play rules, the software requires you to manually click play on the audio at least once before allowing the foot pedal to control it. Upon loading a new job, click the play button once, and then you will be able to use your foot pedal for the rest of the job. |

Sometimes, the built in autocorrects may conflict with something you want to type. For instance, sometimes words are auto-capitalized when you do not wish them to be. Simply use ctrl+Z to undo the autocorrect and return it to what you originally typed. |

Depending on your screen size/resolution settings, the entire view of TypeEasy V2 may not be able to display all at once. If you do not see an audio bar/controls at the top of the screen, look for a scroll bar on the far right and scroll up. This should allow you to see the top of the screen with the audio bar/audio controls. If this doesn’t work, please open a help ticket. |

A variety of issues can occur when the program has been open for too long. If you experience glitches or technical issues, the first step is always to close and restart the program. It’s usually a good idea to restart your computer as well. This should clear up most issues. |

If you have trouble with the audio skipping, repeating, etc., make sure you do NOT have the Proof button checked. The Proof button is not meant to be activated while you are typing. Any time you hit “backspace” while the Proof button is checked, it will cause the audio to skip back to that point and then repeat, even if you are still pressing Play on the foot pedal. Try toggling the Proof button off and see if the issue improves. (Even if the Proof button wasn’t activated, but you have used it on a recent job, try toggling it on and back off.) If any issues persist, try restarting TypeEasy. |

Track changes is never used in SpeakWrite work, so there isn’t an option for it on the TypeEasy toolbar. However, a certain keyboard command does occasionally turn it on by accident. When this happens, you’ll see a vertical red bar like in the image below. Turn it off by using the shortcut ctrl+shift+E.

If you see a dotted line appearing under your text, you may have accidentally turned on Hidden Text. This feature should never be used in SpeakWrite work for two reasons – 1) it doesn’t show up when Show/Hide is off or when the client tries to print the job, and 2) you won’t be paid for it because it isn’t counted in the word count of the job. In your document, Hidden Text looks like this: To turn this off, highlight the hidden text (anything underlined with the dotted line) and use the key combination ctrl+shift+H. |

If you have third-party antivirus software (McAfee, Norton, etc.), it may be interfering with TypeEasy V2’s ability to display properly. Try disabling and/or uninstalling your antivirus software to see if the issue is resolved. If so, you may want to stick with Windows Defender (the pre-loaded antivirus protection software that comes standard on Windows machines) rather than using the third-party antivirus. |
